Google Play Instant games now available, lets you try games without even installing them

0

Almost 2 years since Google originally announced the feature back during Google I/O 2016, “Google Play Instant” is now rolling out for games inside the Play Store app. Announced at Game Developers Conference 2018, the feature lets you tap to play games instantly on your phone — no download necessary.

It’s a great way to sample a game without committing to a full download, saving data, storage space, and time should you happen to not like a title very much. We’ve already seen this with specific apps in the Play Store, but today marks the first time it’s finally ready for game titles as well.

To get started, all you have to do is keep an eye out for games with the “Try Now” button. Tapping it will immediately launch the game (after a brief loading screen). To help make Instant games easier to find, Google has grouped many of them under the Instant Gameplay section of the Google Play Store’s new Arcade tab. There’s only a few at the moment, but expect the list to expand as more developers jump on board.
