The Pixel and Pixel XL are essentially Nexus phones with a bit more control from Google. That last part makes all the difference this year. Google is using their control to push the Pixel phones harder than they ever did with Nexus devices. According to one analytics firm, it’s working wonders so far.
Appboy reports that it took one week for the Pixel XL to reach the market share that tool the Nexus 6P two weeks. Even better news is the numbers after one week of sales. The Pixel went up 274% and the Pixel XL went up 158%. That all sounds great (and it is), but to put things in perspective, the chart below includes the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S6. Google has a long way to go to match those numbers.
Still, Google should be very happy with initial sales and word of mouth. The buzz about the “Google phone” has been louder than any Nexus. The mainstream is interested in what Google has to offer.
