When new devices are released, many of us rush to the XDA Forums to find out if there were any new ROM’s or mods that we could install. Since Nexus devices provided a stock feel, we wanted to see if there was anything we could do to enhance the performance, or add mods to fix things we didn’t like.
So when Google confirmed that the unlocked Pixel devices would be capable of being rooted, those in the root community rejoiced. Now, well-known hacker, Chainfire, has seemingly achieved root access on the Pixel.

In a series of tweets, he explains some of the complications that are being encountered but still was able to get a Superuser request, confirming root access. The biggest hurdle comes in regards to the “dm-verity”, which checks the system for any unauthorized modifications. If a modification is recognized, then you will not be able to boot, so this is a rather big deal.
Re: Pixel root, disabling dm-verity on stock is problematic. Recompiling/patching, then 'system' root can work. Trying to find a better way.

However, you can rest easy knowing that Chainfire is on the case, and is working on a different way to achieve root without upsetting anything else in the system. Lord knows it would be terrible if this was released as is, due to the sheer number of folks would still attempt to root.
There’s no telling how long it will be before everyone can start rooting their brand new Pixel or Pixel XL. So just hang tight knowing it’s in the works.
