There have been many rumblings that Samsung was holding something back when it officially unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 a few weeks back. The rumors were stating that there was a powerhouse Note 7 in the works that included 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Now it seems those rumors are coming to fruition as the company confirmed to be launching this variant in China next week.
Samsung had already confirmed that it was working on another version of the Note 7, but was still holding back from going all-in on the 6GB/128GB model. A new invitation shows that the company will be holding an event on August 26th to unveil the device in China.
While the 4GB/64GB version has already been released in China for 5688 yuan (~853), another rumor states that the 6GB/128GB version will cost only 6088 yuan (~$912). This has led to some eyebrow raising due to the fact that it would cost only an extra $60 to get double the storage and 2 extra GB of RAM. Maybe Samsung is going to play the good guy here, and not cross over the $1000 threshold, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement before giving them too much credit.
There are also a few other differences between the 6GB/128GB version and the other variants that are already available. For one, it seems that this device will remove microSD card support, instead adding an option for another SIM card. Samsung is also expected to be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, instead of its own Exynos 8890 processor that is found within the International variant currently.
Unfortunately for those in other regions, it seems that Samsung doesn’t have plans to release this beast in anywhere other than China, so if you were hoping to get your hands on this one, good luck. The event in China is scheduled for August 26th with pre-orders starting on the same day, and the release coming on September 2nd. We’ll be watching with baited breath as to if this will come to the US or not.
