Honor, Huawei’s online-only smartphone brand, is planning “an exciting product launch” in San Francisco on August 16. While the invitation doesn’t mention which Honor device will be making its US debut on that date, the recently-announced Honor 8 is the most likely candidate since the invitation image (embedded below) features the phone’s dual-camera module. The Honor 8 was introduced just last week in China, featuring Huawei’s octa-core Kirin 950 processor 3 or 4 GB of RAM, up to 64GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8MP front-facing camera, a dual 12MP camera module on the back, 5.2-inch 1080p display with 2.5D glass, 3,000 mAh battery and a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the phone’s glass-panel back.

The phone is essentially Honor’s take on the Huawei P9. It trades in the metal body of the P9 for a multi-layer glass panel on the back and the Kirin 955 SoC is downgraded to the Kirin 950. The Honor 8 will certainly be more expensive than the Honor 5X, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the phone makes it US retail debut within the $300-$350 range. Not bad when you consider that the Huawei P9 is currently selling for €450 (roughly $500 USD) over in Europe.
