Download This: Texpand’s keyboard shortcuts will change the way you type

0

Every once in a while, I run across an app that I can’t believe I lived without. Texpand is the latest such app. It performs such a simple action, but it can completely change the way you use your phone.

Texpand allows you to create shortcuts for your commonly used texts. For example, the phrase “@me” could automatically paste your email address. That alone is not very special or unique. Some keyboard apps allow you to create text shortcuts. The magic of Texpand is it works with any keyboard app you want. That means you can use text shortcuts with popular keyboards such as Swiftkey and Google Keyboard.

How does it work? Texpand acts as an overlay to your current keyboard. When a user-defined phrase is detected, Texpand will pop up a suggestion or even autofill it for you. Literally anything can be a shortcut. You could have the phrase “America” paste the entire Declaration of Independence. More useful shortcuts include your home address, email address, phrases like “I love you,” and the infamous (¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

Here are some examples:

  • @me = your personal email address
  • @work = your work email address
  • home = your full home address
  • luv = I love you
  • shrug = ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • tbflip = (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
  • clpbrd = whatever is in your clipboard
  • date = today’s date

Texpand can also do “dynamic” shortcuts. These are shortcuts that change depending on the situation. For example, you could have the phrase “date” automatically paste the current date.  The same can be done for the time and even your clipboard. You’d be hard pressed to find a keyboard app that can do that.

There are several options to control how the shortcuts work. “Expands immediately” will make the shortcut appear every time you type the phrase. If your phrase is something generic, like “date,” you would want to disable this. “Expands within words” allows shortcuts to appear in the middle of words, and “Disable smart case” makes it so the shortcut will smartly adjust the case.

Texpand is a life changing app. It can make your typing experience infinitely better. No more typing out long addresses or trying to figure out how to make the shruggie emoticon. Texpand is incredibly versatile and handy. The most amazing thing is the app is completely free. We would easily pay for something like this, but to get it for free is the cherry on top. Try Texpand and you’ll wonder how you lived without it.
