Nobody knew exactly when GoPro planned on releasing their upcoming drone — dubbed the GoPro Karma Drone — but last we heard, they were gunning for the first half of 2016. Almost unsurprisingly, GoPro revealed during their Q1 2016 earnings call that the release date has now officially slipped until the holiday season.
GoPro assures investors that it’s to take advantage of the holiday buying rush, but we’re not so sure. To date, nobody has actually seen what GoPro is planning for their first drone, although they recently showed off some 4K footage shot with the aircraft high up in the mountains, a video which has already amassed more than 1.3 million views.
When it comes to their mobile endeavors, GoPro notes that their mobile app has seen some success, with 2.8 million downloads during the first quarter, which, according to the Google Play Store, has garnered between 10-50 million installs on Android since its launch.
The GoPro Mobile App was downloaded 2.8 million times in the first quarter, totaling almost 27 million cumulative downloads; Q1 installs of GoPro Studio totaled almost 1.5 million, totaling nearly 16.5 million cumulative installs, with average daily video exports up 33.5% year-over-year to over 52,000 in the first quarter.
