Google Photos is by far one of the most convenient and easiest ways to back up all your photos to the cloud. After introducing smarter albums for the Android app a few weeks back, they’re now improving the way you can interact with Google Photos on the web.
The update makes performing common actions easier than ever with new keyboard shortcuts to execute common actions like quick edit, enhance, delete, download, search, and lots more. No need to fiddle around your mouse, these can now all by pulled up with a simple keystroke (press shift+? to see all the options).
Managing albums is now loads easier, with the ability to upload photos from your desktop directly into an album, including shared albums with others. Previously you had to upload your photos, then reorganize them into a folder, something that not only wasted valuable time but was a huge hassle.
The update is an absolute godsend for anyone that’s ever tried messing around with their web interface, something better suited for mobile than an actual desktop. It’s not perfect. Some of the shortcuts were broken for us and it was a little clunky to use on our laptop. We’d still love to see full fledged desktop software (OSX or Windows), but it seems this is as good as it’s going to get for now. Hopefully everything will be fully ironed out in the future.
The best part about the update is that it’s not a staged rollout — the new features are available right now at photos.google.com. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.
