You may not be able to convince everyone, but VR is the hottest thing in tech right now. When HTC announced that they’d be diversifying their portfolio by launching a new VR product, many rolled their eyes. But after seeing what they came up with — more importantly, experiencing it — it was clear they were onto something big.The HTC Vive is a VR headset unlike any other, and when HTC finally revealed pricing at a whopping $799, we weren’t sure how well the headset would be received.
Well, apparently it was a hit. Yesterday, Vive pre-orders officially went live and HTC’s Shen Ye posted to Twitter that they officially sold 15,000 units within the first 10 minutes. HTC Chairwoman and CEO Cher Wang seemingly confirmed the high demand, also posting her enthusiasm for the “overwhelming response” of pre-orders.
For all those curious, the HTC Vive comes with 2 motions controllers and lists the following PC hardware requirements:
- Intel i5-4590 or better / AMD FX 8350 or better
- NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 or better / AMD R9 290 or better
- 4GB of RAM
The first Vive units off the factory line begin shipping on April 5th and with a little over a month to go, we expect to see order numbers only grow from here.
