Qualcomm was never really shy about some of the features their upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC would be capable of. Officially unveiled at an event in New York, today we finally get the whole picture. Now, we already knew about its insanely fast LTE speeds and support for next-gen Quick Charge 3.0, but here’s what you can expect from the 820 when it debuts in your favorite mobile devices next year.
Snapdragon 820 manufactured on 14nm FinFET technology includes:
- X12 LTE modem – Offers 3x faster peak upload speeds and 33% faster peak download speeds compared to those of X10 LTE.
- 64-bit custom Kryo CPU – The new 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPU has 2x performance and efficiency when compared to the CPU of Snapdragon 810.
- Hexagon 680 DSP – The new Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP with Hexagon Vector eXtensions and a sensor processing “low power island” brings significant improvement to performance and battery life.
- Adreno 530 GPU – Offers 40% improvement to graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage when compared to Adreno 430.
- 14-bit Spectra Camera ISP – Camera Image Signal Processor (ISP) supports the capture of up to 28 megapixels.
Of course Qualcomm wasn’t ready to announce which smartphones and tablets will use their new processor — that’s left up to OEMs. If history has taught us anything, you can expect most of next year’s flagships to have 820 inside.
