Google announced two great devices yesterday: the Huawei-made Nexus 6P and the LG-made Nexus 5X. One particular feature set Google is celebrating on these two devices are their cameras. And now, thanks to a Google Team member, we’re finding out some important details on the similarities and differences:
“Both devices have the same camera – a 12.3MP camera, with a large 1.55um pixels, which works great in all conditions – especially low light. And both have LDAF for fast auto-focus.
[They have the] same sensor (IMX377) and F/2.0 optics.”

If you’re into having a phone with a great camera it sounds like you can’t go wrong with either the 6P and 5X, but before you make a decision, you should be warned that just because the camera specs themselves are identical doesn’t mean the final results will be identical.
Features ONLY on the Nexus 6P
Because the Nexus 6P has a more powerful set of device specs it can also hand more rigorous real-time processing, which means it includes three features not found on the 5X:
- 240fps slomo (vs 120fps on Nexus 5X)
- Smartburst
- EIS
These could be important features for photo lovers- and you’ll likely agree if you see this outrageously awesome video of a Hummingbird taken with the Nexus 6P. The ability to rapidly capture dozens of pictures in a row in hopes to get that perfrect moment and the stabilization of photos/videos that EIS offers are features that ensure memory-lovers get the most out of every moment they capture.
So there you have it… the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X have identical camera specs, but the 6P has 3 features you may not want to pass up.
