Towards the tail end of last week, the HTC One on Sprint began receiving a speedy over-the-air update to software version 1.29.651.10. The update was said to mainly address the capacitive button sensitivity — honestly, one of my biggest gripes with the device — and today it looks like the HTC One Developer Edition could be receiving similar treatment. Software update 1.29.1540.16 is currently rolling out to all Developer Editions of the device, and while a specific changelog hasn’t been posted just yet, the update mentioned “System enhancement” which really, could mean just about anything at this point.
UPDATE: We reached out to HTC and they’re telling us this is completely unrelated to the Sprint version and its capacitive button sensitivity fix. This update for the One Developer Edition is merely stability improvements — nothing more.
The HTC One (all versions) still remains on Android version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and it appears as if HTC is focusing on stability before finally making the jump to 4.2.2. Speaking of latest version of Jelly Bean, the boys at PhoneArena have it on good authority that the 4.2.2 update could be coming “in a matter of weeks.” We’ll have to wait and see how quickly US carriers can roll it out, of course but my money is Sprint in beating the rest to the punch. All I know is the sooner I can get 1-finger expanding notifications, the better.
I haven’t got the update, but I am having issues with Google Now stating I need to turn on my location services for it to work properly. When I access the card, it goes to my location settings, but all of them are checked. Anyone else having the issue?
i read about this issue after the latest google search update
I do, but I think that’s on Google’s end
Mine is telling me to turn on WiFi, but its always on (not always connected). Hopefullythey it soon.
I get the sentiment that most here aren’t software/firmware/hardware engineers, myself included, however, the mfgs aren’t endearing themselves to their customer base w/such update descriptions:
“This update for the One Developer Edition is merely stability improvements — nothing more.”
Give us a bit more credit,I believe we can digest a bit more substantive description of what the update entailed.
For real, I like it when OEM’s specifically address bugs they’ve squashed in their updates. “Fixed force closes with yadda yadda” or “Better compatibility with ___”
