If there is one thing we could change about the GiiNii Movit Mini it’s the name – everything else is straight up bread and butter. Its not hard to see why WE think it would be one of the coolest things at CES 2009, but when Engadget echoes those sentiments and Gizmodo claims the “idea sounds so sexy”, we realize we’re not alone.
The GiiNii Movit Mini is an Android Tablet that connects ONLY via WiFi and has no cellphone capabilities – hence the iPod Touch reference. At $149 the device comes with Bluetooth, a built-in speaker, built-in-mic and front facing camera that, even without a cell connection, could easily have you Skyping. With only 256MB of onboard storage you’ll need to put that MicroSD slot to good use… too bad it can’t yet hold 2 Terabytes.
The device looks really, really nice and supposedly the soft keyboard is as close to perfect as you can get. Unfortunately the touch screen had some response issues but, being a prototype, this is expected… laggy touchscreens seem to be the #1 sign of beta hardware.
Any word on whether or not the Maxx version (7″ screen) will have a keyboard?
Any idea when it will be available? It seems to have gone quiet.
GiiNii says the 7″ Maxx will be for home/office use, no keyboard. Only 256 Mb memory, but it has a slot for a micro SD card, which are available today with 16 GB.
The Mini should go on sale Oct. 1st, 2009, and the Maxx should be on sale Jan. 1st 2010.
