Our minds were blown back when those wacky ROM devs were somehow able to port Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the now ancient T-Mobile G1. Now, it looks they’re at it again, dusting off the G1 one more (final?) go on the latest Google dessert: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Naturally, you shouldn’t expect much. The video uploaded to YouTube for the generations, shows the OG Google phone bursting at the seams just trying to contain the power of the Bean. Things are laggy. Things are broken. But you know what? At least we can say, “We did it.” Now, before you bury the G1 in a drawer somewhere, take her out for one more spin, would ya? For old time’s sake…

Are you serious? Uh… you speak as if Jelly Bean is supported officially on the HTC Dream. It is not… just like Apple does’t support iOS on a 5 year old phone. They know the experience would suffer. Even the guy in the video says it will “never be a daily driver.”
However… the irony is that iOS 6 WILL BE OFFICIALLY supported on a phone that was released 3 years ago. THAT is impressive.
But that iOS 6 will be a dumbed down version of it, not with all the features.
yea cept for the fact that the Iphone 4 is already having lagg issues with 5.1, i cant even imagine 6.0. Just because you can upgrade a device to a more up to date OS doesn’t mean you should at this point the only reason apple is doing it is for bragging rights, even the latest Ipod touch cant handle 5.1, you get a lag on the swipe to unlock screen let alone the rest of the interface.
why do i want to run a lagging OS???

Chris this is totally raw. I now have a reason too live again with my G1. I’m totally pumped now. Can’t wait to get home. Call me old school but G1 was my first love I’ll do anything to bring her back into my life. m/(^_^)m/
My old G1 is seeing new use again. My girlfriend took it up so she could upgrade the POS that she had. It’s so nice to see my old baby being used again. I don’t think I’d ever root it and install ICS let alone the pre-alpha of JB on it mind you. :)
I watch the video above and I am absolutely amazed by how much mobile technology and Android as a whole have matured/improved in the past 4 years since the G1 was released. Cant wait to see what the Android experience will be like on the G1’s 10th anniversary.
