Apple is getting ready to launch the iPhone 17 series, and one of the more interesting models this year is the iPhone 17 Air. Rumored to replace the Plus variant, the iPhone 17 Air will feature an ultra-thin design, and according to a new leak, it might end up being thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge.
A video shared by FrontPageTech claims the iPhone 17 Air will be just 5.5mm thick. That makes it 0.3mm thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge. While that difference might sound minor, beating Samsung at its own thinness game gives Apple a clear marketing win. Apple has reportedly been testing ultra-thin designs for future models, and the Air could be the first significant step in that direction.
That said, there are some compromises. Apple is expected to equip the iPhone 17 Air with a single 48MP rear camera. In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge sports a dual camera setup with a 200MP main sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide. That’s a big gap in photo versatility.
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Air should feature the A19 chip, 12GB of RAM, and a 6.6-inch 120Hz display. Battery life is expected to match the base iPhone 17.
The price? Around $899, similar to the outgoing iPhone 16 Plus. If it sells well, Apple may invest more heavily in the Air series moving forward. For now, it’s a slim experiment with a lot riding on first impressions.
