Dyson Discontinues its Air-Purifier-headphone-hybrid

Remember the Dyson Zone, that weird-looking accessory that combined a face mask, air purifier and headphones into one piece of headwear? It’s hard to miss, but in case you’re not too familiar with it, its debut back in 2022 certainly raised a lot of eyebrows as to what Dyson had in mind—fresh off of the pandemic, a lot of companies were finding creative ways to introduce new tech in the health sector.

The Zone worked by using the headphones themselves as a form of suction to absorb air from your surroundings using tiny compressors. The air is then filtered and pushed out through the mouthpiece in front of the wearer’s face in the form of an “air bubble”. The company says that the air filtration system is capable of filtering out 99% of particle pollution.

That being said, it looks like Dyson has now decided to discontinue the Zone, which cost $950 upon its release. Numerous retailers across the US and UK for example no longer carry supplies of the item, with no word of restocks in the future. You can still find it on Dyson’s website though, albeit at the very last page on its online store front. In its heyday though, the company says that the product sold in the “thousands,” which leads us to believe that it wasn’t awfully popular with most average consumers.
