Xiaomi’s Gearing Up for a Major Announcement

Following the official confirmation of its first-ever in-house smartphone chip, Xiaomi has announced that it’s scheduled a launch event for the 22nd of May, which will expectedly include the XRING 01 chip, Xiaomi 15S Pro, Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, and the upcoming YU7 electric SUV.

According to Xiaomi, the XRING 01 chip is being worked on by a team of a thousand personnel, engineers, and more, headed by former Qualcomm exec Qin Muyun. The chip will feature an application processor built on TSMC’s 4nm node, in addition to a layout consisting of one Prime core at 3.2GHz, three performance cores at 2.5GHz, and four efficiency cores at 2GHz.

Xiaomi seems confident that the XRING 01 will be able to match Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen-series chips, although we still have to wait and see how it performs once it’s out in the market—speaking of which, the chip is expected to make its debut with the Xiaomi 15S Pro, as the brand’s other current devices are running on Qualcomm chips.
