Samsung Gallery private album feature could arrive in One UI 8

Samsung might finally make it easier to hide your private photos—without going full Secure Folder. A recent leak suggests a Samsung Gallery private album feature is in the works for One UI 8.

The leak comes from X user @DalgleishGX, who spotted the new “Private album” setting in a test build of Samsung’s next software update. Based on the screenshot, the feature appears to live directly inside the Gallery app, offering a more streamlined way to keep certain photos and videos out of plain view.

This wouldn’t replace Secure Folder entirely. That feature is still the go-to for locking down apps, documents, and media under a separate user profile. But it’s also overkill for anyone who just wants to hide a few vacation shots or screenshots without leaving the Gallery app. A Private album could strike a better balance—simple, accessible, and quick.

Besides the Samsung Gallery private album, One UI 8 is expected to bring better background task management and smarter predictions, like app suggestions based on context. We’ve also heard rumors of better battery health tools and deeper AI integration, although those haven’t been confirmed yet.

The first beta for One UI 8 could drop later this month. However, Samsung’s recent track record suggests a slow rollout. One UI 7 took several months to hit all devices. So, don’t hold your breath for a stable release just yet.
