Samsung SmartThings is Finally Getting an Update

Samsung recently announced that its IoT platform—better known as SmartThings—is getting a new update, which features better integration with Samsung Health, new automation experience for users, and support for Matter 1.4 Standard.

Samsung has added Sleep environment reports from Samsung Health which will provide users with insights on temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels and light intensity, to name some. This data will then be used by the system to suggest improvements to users in order to help them get the most optimised sleep possible.

The update also lets users use their Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring to set routines that will control lights and the TV at bedtime or to open curtains and play music in the morning, for example. SmartThings will also support automation routines based on weekly, monthly or annual schedules, allowing users to set tasks based on specific dates and occasions.

These routines can also be used with Samsung’s 2025 line of smart TV models, such as powering on the TV during specific times or switching to certain channels throughout the day. The update also features a new broadcasting function that will allow users to transmit voice messages through speakers connected via SmartThings.

The update also expands the Calm Onboarding feature to work with compatible third-party smart home devices purchased through Samsung.com, with a roll-out planned initially for Korea with global expansion to come soon. Additionally, SmartThings now supports Matter 1.4, incorporating a wider array of energy management devices like water heaters, heat pumps, and solar power devices, to name a few.
