Here’s how big Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone will be

We’ve been hearing rumors that Apple is planning on hopping on board the foldable bandwagon. Those rumors have persisted for years, but it looks like we could be getting closer. Now according to a post on Weibo by Digital Chat Station, some of the specs of Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone have leaked.

The leaked specs are related to the phone’s display size. According to the post, the external display measures 5.49-inches, but when it unfolds, it unfolds to 7.74-inches. It’s an interesting choice in terms of display size.

For starters, Apple hasn’t made a phone with a display under 6-inches for years. The decision to opt for a smaller external display is interesting. As for the internal display, at 7.74-inches, it is smaller compared to Apple’s smallest tablet, the iPad mini, which has an 8.3-inch display.

We’re only speculating here, but one possible reason Apple opted for a smaller external display could be that they want to make the phone shorter. This could potentially allow Apple to maintain an aspect ratio similar to the iPad, creating a true tablet-like experience instead of the square-ish kind of displays we’ve seen in most foldables to date. Another possible theory is that Apple wants to create a device that’s more manageable in terms of size.

In any case, take this with a grain of salt for now. Last we heard, Apple is planning to bring its foldable iPhone to market in 2026, so we still have a year before that happens, if it happens at all.
