Paid subreddits are coming this year

0

Reddit is essentially the internet’s largest forum. It plays host to all kinds of topics and you’ll be bound to find something catered to your interest or niche. For the most part, Reddit is free to use, but now according to the platform’s CEO Steve Huffman, it looks like paid subreddits will finally be coming this year.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of this. Back in 2024, there were hints that paid subreddits could eventually be a thing. Now according to Huffman during an AMA video on Reddit’s Q4 2024 earnings, the CEO confirmed that the feature will arrive in 2025. However, not much is known about it right now and how it will work.

That being said, we might have a clue as to how this might play out. According to a report from Ars Technica, Reddit already offers Reddit Premium subscribers access to r/lounge, an exclusive subreddit. Then there is also the Reddit Contributor Program where Reddit pays some users for contributing there.

It will be interesting to see what this plays out and if it could give subreddit owners and moderators a way to monetize themselves while also giving the company a cut of the proceeds. There’s no date on when the feature will launch but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info!
