If you’re running the latest beta version of WhatsApp on your Android device, then you might have seen a new unofficial feature that will allow group chat members to assign a label for themselves. The feature was spotted along with WhatsApp beta version 2.25.4.3.

As spotted by the folks over at WAbetainfo,  new feature will let users “define their role” within group chats using the label feature, allowing for better clarity and personalization. The user labels will also be exclusive to a certain group chat, so they will not carry over to other groups which the user is also a part of. WhatsApp might also suggest default labels such as “chairperson,” or other designations, although we’re assuming this can be customized.

No release date has been given for the feature yet however, although we can expect it to arrive in the coming months. A while back, an APK teardown revealed that Google might be working on a way to integrate WhatsApp video calls to one-on-one RCS chats on Android.
