Qualcomm launches a slightly more affordable variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite

0

One of the problems Qualcomm is facing is the rising cost of its chipsets. The company has not publicly disclosed how much its chipsets cost, but reports have indicated that prices have increased over the years. This makes it costlier for OEMs to use Qualcomm’s chipsets. However, it seems that Qualcomm might have a solution for a new variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Galaxy S25 Ultra deal

According to a report from Android Authority, Qualcomm has quietly listed a new variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The specs of the chipset revealed that for the most part, it is identical to the flagship chipset minus one performance core. This should make the chipset a bit more affordable.

For those unfamiliar, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is the latest chipset from Qualcomm. It was launched in 2024 and is expected to make its way into most flagship phones in 2025, including the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. The specs indicate that the clock speeds of this variant remain the same as the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite; it just has one less performance core.

What does this mean for users? You probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference for most day-to-day tasks. It might affect apps or users who require maxed-out performance, but the difference is probably negligible for the average smartphone user.
