Google’s efforts to continuously transform home entertainment experiences with its Google TV products have so far been consistent, and it’s worked with a number of different hardware and software brands – one of these is MediaTek, a veteran chip manufacturer with years of experience under its belt.
With that in mind, Google announced a while back that it was collaborating with MediaTek towards the development of a dedicated chipset which will be used for Google Home products moving forward, as well as accelerating widespread adoption of the Thread networking protocol.

This chipset now takes the form of the MediaTek Filogic MT7903, which supports multiple wireless connectivity solutions including tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, and integrated Thread support. Scheduled for sampling in the first half of 2025, MediaTek and Google hope the MT7903 will lower the barrier to entry for manufacturers looking to integrate Thread into their devices.
Additionally, the MT7903 will also support the Matter standard, which allows for better connectivity between devices from different brands and manufacturers, with improvements to system security. MediaTek adds that a key function of the Filogic MT7903 is the “Thread border router offload” feature, which allows the main system-on-chip to enter low-power sleep modes while keeping constant connectivity with other smart home devices.
