Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X wants to make Arm-powered PCs cheaper

0

Last year, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X Elite chipset. This chipset was designed to go up against the Apple Silicon, creating Arm-powered Windows PCs. For the most part, most of the Snapdragon X Elite based PCs sit on the higher-end of the price spectrum, which is why Qualcomm has since announced the Snapdragon X which will introduce cheaper Arm-powered PCs.

The Snapdragon X is the latest addition to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series of chipsets. It represents the lowest range right now and joins the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon X will help to facilitate the creation of more PCs in the $600 range.

The Snapdragon X is powered by an 8-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU. It offers significant performance improvements for next-generation PCs. Qualcomm claims that it is 163% faster at the same power level compared to the competition. It is also more power efficient for the same level of power it can produce.

The processor included in the Snapdragon X features 45 TOPS NPU for AI tasks and a power-efficient GPU for improved graphics. So far, Qualcomm says that computer makers such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are on board with cheaper PCs powered by the Snapdragon X expected to arrive in early 2025.
