Vivo is no stranger when it comes to wallet-friendly Android handsets, and its new Y29 continues the trend of affordable smartphones under its “Y” series. Priced at just around 200 bucks, the Vivo Y29 is as basic as they get, and doesn’t exactly hide the fact that it’s a device meant for smaller budgets.
In terms of features, the phone comes with a 6.68-inch IPS LCD screen and 720×1608 pixel resolution, which is surrounded by a plastic chassis that Vivo says is “military-graded” to withstand shocks, alongside an IP64 rating. Inside is a 5,500 mAh battery which supports 44W charging, and given the low screen resolution we’d reckon that you won’t need to charge it that often.
Powering the Vivo Y29 is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. 4GB of memory is pretty low by 2024 standards, although thankfully Vivo is offering an 8GB variant which should be a bit more capable. There’s also room for a microSD card slot for expanded storage, which is rather handy.
As for cameras, The Vivo Y29 comes with a dual-camera setup on the rear headed by a 50MP AI camera, while an 8MP camera handles selfies and video calls. Both front and rear setups can record video at up to 1080p resolution at 30fps.
