MediaTek recently introduced the latest expansion to its high-end chipset line with the Dimensity 8400, which slots just below the space occupied by the 9400 in the Taiwanese manufacturer’s lineup. One unique feature of the 8400 is its All-big design, which literally means an array of all-big cores within the platform.

The 8400 features an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor that runs at up to 3.25GHz, with as much as 41% higher multi-core performance and up to 44% reduction in peak power use versus its predecessor, the Dimensity 8300. It also packs an Arm Mali-G720 GPU that provides up to 24% higher peak performance and 42% greater power efficiency during gameplay, including the MediaTek Frame Rate Converter feature for smoother gaming sessions.
As with most other chipsets these days, the 8400 also comes with AI capabilities by way of the NPU 880 which allows for generative AI tasks.
In terms of camera hardware, the Dimensity 8400’s Imagiq 1080 ISP is capable of supporting 320 megapixel sensors, HDR video recording across all zoom levels, and improved power consumption with 4K video recording. The Dimensity 8400 is also capable of supporting a variety of screen configurations including dual-screen displays, and panels with WQHD+ resolution.
It’s expected that the upcoming Redmi Turbo 4 will be the first phone to feature the chip when it launches in January 2025.
