AirTag 2 could offer a longer range for item tracking

0

If you own an iPhone and want a way to track your items or bags, the AirTag is probably one of the best accessories you can get. But you might want to hold off on getting one right now. This is because according to the latest rumors, the AirTag 2 could offer improvements to the range of the tracker.

According to the latest copy of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the AirTag 2 is said to offer a massive upgrade of its range over its predecessor. The report claims that Apple will use their second-gen Ultra Wideband chip for the AirTag 2. Apparently this will result in a range that is three times as long/far as the current model.

This is expected to work in tandem with Apple’s new iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models. Both these models come equipped with a new Precision Finding feature that helps you locate your friends, even in crowded/busy places. It has a range of about 60 meters. It is presumed that the AirTag 2 could offer a similar range.

Gurman’s previous newsletter also revealed additional changes that Apple could make to the AirTag 2. This includes making it more tamper proof. Right now there are cases of people removing the built-in speaker. The new AirTag 2 is expected to make that a bit more difficult, but we’ll have to wait and see.
