Ever since being placed on the US Entity List, Huawei has been steadily trying to find ways to distance itself from Google and to reduce their reliance on the company. This has culminated in the form of a brand new mobile OS called HarmonyOS Next, which according to recent reports can still run Android apps.
Obviously Huawei is trying to reduce their reliance on Google and Android, but the company seems to understand that not everyone can survive without Google services. This is why it’s not a complete surprise when a user on Reddit discovered an app called EzsyAbroad in the AppGallery.
This app is essentially an Android emulator. It seems to have been designed to be used by Huawei owners outside of China who might still require access to various Google apps and services. In addition to Google apps, the emulator will allow users to install apps such as Facebook, Netflix, Disney Plus, Instagram, and more.
We’re not sure how well the emulation works. There are reports that there are issues regarding alerts and notifications. Plus, users cannot pull the apps out of the folder and place them on the phone’s home screen. However, we reckon it’s still a decent alternative in case there are certain Android apps you want to run that aren’t available natively on HarmonyOS Next.
