Google’s trouble with Android tablets – at least from a first-party standpoint – has never really left its side, and the reported cancellation of the Pixel Tablet 2 not too long ago has not helped matters in any way whatsoever. With that in mind, new details regarding the cancelled device have emerged online, and it only confirms what is already seen as a missed opportunity from Google.
As such, it looks like Google was planning to equip the Pixel Tablet 2 with a modified version of the Tensor G4 chipset, the original of which is found inside the Pixel 9 series phones. The tablet would have also had a 120Hz display, a nice upgrade from the otherwise plain screen of the 2023 model. Other details include newer cameras and 5G support.

Given that the cancellation of the Pixel Tablet 2 happened around the same time that Google was reported to be working on a new laptop and a fusion of Android and Chrome OS, the company’s future plans regarding large-screened devices remains a mystery. In any case, many are speculating that the 2023 Pixel Tablet didn’t sell well to warrant a successor, but Google has so far kept quiet on the “official” reason for its pivot.
