Oppo Reno 13 Pro could be the first MediaTek Dimensity 8350 phone

The majority of smartphones these days are powered by Qualcomm’s chipsets. But that doesn’t mean that Qualcomm is the only player in town. In fact, the upcoming Oppo Reno 13 Pro could actually be one of the first smartphones to take advantage of the new MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset.

When the handset was first rumored about, we heard that it could actually be powered by the Dimensity 9300. Now according to Digital Chat Station, that might have changed. Instead, Oppo is expected to use the Dimensity 8350 which is a new mid-range chipset announced by MediaTek not too long ago.

MediaTek’s chipsets have been gaining quite a bit of traction over the years. Like we said, Qualcomm’s chipsets tend to be more favored, but as prices have gone up, OEMs are starting to look elsewhere. MediaTek used to be viewed as a less powerful albeit more affordable alternative to Qualcomm.

However, in the past few years, MediaTek’s flagships are showing some real promise in terms of performance. In any case, we’ll have to wait and see what the Oppo Reno 13 Pro brings to the table with its new chipset in tow, and hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming weeks.
