One of the accessibility features of Google Chrome for Android is “Listen to this page”. Basically what it does is that it reads out the content on a page for users. This is ideal for those who might have some form of visual impairment that makes it hard for them to see what’s on a page.
It can also be used for those who might be busy and want to do something else while the contents of the page are read out to them. The good news for users who love to multitask is that it looks like Google has given Chrome for Android a little update. With this update, Google has added support for background playback.
This means that the “Listen to this page” feature can now run in the background. This will allow users to multitask by switching to a different app while continuing the playback. Prior to this, if users were to switch apps, playback would stop. Playback would only continue if Chrome is the foreground app when you lock your phone, or if you’re switching between tabs.
This update might be a particularly huge or groundbreaking update, but it is pretty useful for those who like to multitask. This update is part of Chrome 130 for Android, so make sure you’re running the latest version if you want to take advantage of the feature.
