Android is getting some new anti-theft security measures

Android already comes with some built-in security features that are designed to deter thieves. This doesn’t mean that it’s a perfect system, which is why it’s nice to see that Google has started to roll out more anti-theft features for Android users in the US.

According to a post on X by Mishaal Rahman, it seems that Google has started to push out an update to Android for those in the US where the update will contain a bunch of new anti-theft related features. Prior to this, the features were in beta testing for users in Brazil, but it looks like it is now rolling out to more users as we speak.

These new features include Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock. With Theft Detection Lock, it uses machine learning to determine if your phone might have been snatched from your hand and someone is running away with it. If it does, it will block access to your apps and data.

For Offline Device Lock, this feature will automatically lock your phone’s screen if your phone has been disconnected from the internet for an extended period of time. Last but not least is Remote Lock where you can remotely lock your phone using your phone number. This is for just in case you can’t sign into Find My Device with your Google account.
