The Official Fitbit Site will be Going Away Soon

0

Things have been a bit rocky for Fitbit these past few months – following rumors that Google will be discontinuing Fitbit smartwatches in the near future (which turned out to be false), it looks like Fitbit’s official website will be shutdown soon, as part of Google’s continued absorption of the once-independent fitness tech company.

Visitors to Fitbit.com have reported seeing a banner notifying users that the Fitbit store will be moving to the Google Store. The notice states: “On 10/1, the Fitbit store is moving. Shop Fitbit on Google Store.” With that said, folks looking to purchase a Fitbit device will now need to visit the Google Store to do so.

On one hand, this isn’t exactly new, as Fitbit devices have been available on Google’s online storefront for some time now. Earlier on, Fitbit help and support posts were gradually moved from Fitbit to Google’s online support pages. A month ago, rumors circulated that Google will be discontinuing sales and production of Fitbit devices, although the company has since refuted this with an official statement.

However, it should also be noted that Google has pulled official Fitbit support and availability in several countries, limiting the brand’s reach to fewer regions compared to before its takeover of Fitbit. Several key personnel from Fitbit have also resigned following restructuring and layoffs within Google.
