The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra packs an impressive set of cameras. Overall, the photos taken by the phone are pretty amazing. But one area that seems to be neglected is the ultrawide angle camera which is a paltry 12MP compared to the other cameras. That will change as the rumors claim that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultrawide camera could be upgraded.
This is according to a post on X by tipster Ice Universe. The tipster claims that for the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultrawide camera, Samsung will be upgrading it from 12MP to a 50MP 1/2.52-inch f/1.9 sensor. For context, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s ultrawide is a 12MP f/2.2 1/2.55-inch sensor.
The use of a higher-resolution sensor will result in photos that are more detailed and the wider aperture will help when lighting isn’t so ideal. We know that we’ve said that megapixels aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things. But looking at the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it has a 200MP main shooter and its periscope telephoto camera has a 50MP sensor, so a 12MP ultrawide feels out of place.
We would love to see Samsung upgrade the 10MP telephoto camera, but the report doesn’t mention anything about it. Either way, it’s still a bit early to tell how accurate this rumor is, so take it with a grain of salt.
