0

Amazon Kindle is undoubtedly one of the best eBook readers you can get in the market. It comes in different form factors and with different features. The core approach remains the same which is to deliver a convenient book-reading experience while taking negligible space in your bag or room.

Its e-Ink display ensures your eyes don’t strain even when reading at night or in your room without lights on. The best part is Kindle comes with various features that take your reading experience to the next level. They help you discover new things about the book/author you are reading, enhance your vocabulary, add highlights/notes, and much more.

Here are the 9 Amazon Kindle tips and tricks you should know.

Setup PIN

If you do not want to share your Kindle with others, it is advised to secure it with a PIN code. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner when on the Kindle homepage. Choose Settings > Device Options > Privacy and Security > Device PIN to set a 4-digit PIN. Do note that if you forget your PIN, the only option would be to reset the device. It could result in you losing reading progress if the device was locked when it was offline.

Create Collections of Books

Collections is a feature that lets you organize Kindle books into various categories. It becomes even more useful if you have a significant library of eBooks. Tap the three-dot icon and choose Create a Collection to proceed. Select a name for your collection and choose the books you want to add.

To access your Collections, visit Settings > Home and Library > Library tab > Collections and choose from Always Show, Show Favorites, or Show only in Collections View. You can check your Collections in the Library as per your preferred setting.

Highlights and Notes

If you are someone who prefers highlighting favorite parts of books or adding notes, the good thing is you can do the same on Kindle too. All you need to do is tap and hold the text and select the sentence(s) or paragraph(s) you want to highlight/note. You can check your highlighted texts and notes by visiting the Library. It will have a new eBook named Your Clippings.

Book Cover on the Lock Screen

Kindle has different lockscreen screensavers that appear on the screen when you are not using it. But, the good thing is Kindle lets you set the book cover as the lockscreen screensaver. Visit Settings > Screen and Brightness > Show covers on the lockscreen to turn on the toggle.

Use X-Ray for Insights

X-Ray is an Amazon Kindle feature that lets you get deeper insights into the book you are reading. It offers details related to notable clips, people, terms, and images used in the book. You can tap on a particular item in any category to get more information. To use the feature, open the book you want to read and tap at the top to get different options. Tap the three-dot icon in the left corner and choose X-Ray from the drop-down menu.

Adjust Text Font and Page Layout

If you do not like the default font and page layout of Kindle books, you can always change that whenever you want. Simply open a book, tap at the top, and tap the “Aa” option. You will see four options: Themes, Font, Layout, and More. Choose Font and Layout options to get better control over how you want the Kindle book to appear.

Kindle Screenshots

You may not know but Kindle lets you capture screenshots. All you need to do is to tap in the top-left and bottom-right corners at the same time. Alternatively, you can tap the top-right and bottom-left corners simultaneously. You can access screenshots by connecting your Kindle with a PC.

Send to Kindle

Kindle is primarily seen as a device for reading eBooks but it can also be used to read other documents. Visit the dedicated Send to Kindle page to upload your files. Supported file formats are PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTM, HTML, PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, and EPUB. This page further mentions other ways you can send files to Kindle.
