Earlier this year, Google announced and released the Pixel 8a. This is the cheaper version of the Pixel 8 series which was released last year. But now according to a post on X by ShrimpApplePro, they have shared what they claim are images of the upcoming Google Pixel 9a.
The post claims that this came from a private Facebook group. We have to express our skepticism at this leak, mainly because the person who leaked it has something of a mixed track record. This isn’t to say it isn’t the real deal, but a leak this early, especially for a device that seems fully designed and built feels dubious.
Also, in case you didn’t know, Google usually releases its Pixel A-series the following year after its main series is released. The Pixel 9 series was only announced a couple of weeks ago, so the Pixel 9a is probably only scheduled for 2025. It is entirely possible that Google is already working on the Pixel 9a. But having a fully functioning prototype with the design all fleshed out feels unlikely.
That being said, the leaked images show a phone that looks quite similar to the Pixel 9 series. The main difference is in the camera module, where it appears to be flush against the body of the phone. This is versus the Pixel 9 where the camera module sticks out a bit. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
