A cheaper Meta Quest could be coming soon

0

Virtual reality (VR) can be incredibly fun. However, one of the problems with the majority of VR headsets is that they can be expensive. Take for example the Meta Quest 3. With a price tag of $499.99, it is an expensive purchase for something most people might not use everyday. But now we are hearing that a cheaper version of the Meta Quest 3 is in the works.

This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter. According to Gurman, Meta is apparently developing a cheaper alternative to the Meta Quest 3 called the Meta Quest 3S. This headset could be announced very soon, possibly in September during the Meta Connect conference which is scheduled for the 25th of the month.

Gurman claims that in terms of pricing, the Meta Quest 3S could be priced cheaper at around $300. This would basically be a $200 reduction in price, making it more affordable and more attractive for those who are curious about VR and want to dip their toes into the (virtual) waters.

One thing to note is that Gurman believes that in order to reduce the price, the controllers could be sold separately. For context, the Meta Quest Touch Plus Controller sells for about $150 for a pair. This means that if purchased together, it might end up being close in price to the regular Meta Quest 3. It is possible that Meta might use different and cheaper controllers, but we’ll have to wait and see.
