Sonos has hit a bit of a rough patch recently – actually, “rough patch” is putting it mildly, especially considering the amount of consumer backlash against the company right now. More specifically, a lot of complaints are directed towards the company’s recent app updates, which have caused issues for countless Sonos devices everywhere.
With that in mind, some have called for the company to reinstate the older version of its app, which had less trouble with connectivity and overall usability. However, it looks like Sonos isn’t too keen on going this route, as stated by CEO Patrick Spence. Addressing user comments on Reddit, he states:
The trick of course is that Sonos is not just the mobile app, but software that runs on your speakers and in the cloud too. In the months since the new mobile app launched we’ve been updating the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud to the point where today S2 is less reliable & less stable then what you remember. After doing extensive testing we’ve reluctantly concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the problems worse, not better. I’m sure this is disappointing. It was disappointing to me.
The newer Sonos app was launched back in May, and has since resulted in countless complaints from users citing connection issues, missing features, and a number of other bugs. Just recently, the company announced that it will be laying off up to a hundred people from its workforce.
For the time being, it looks like Sonos users will have to wait a bit more until a new app update is announced.
