With the launch of the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold, we expect that Google will want to focus on sales of the device moving forwards. So much so that when 9to5Google reported that the original Pixel Fold was no longer listed on Google’s online store, we weren’t surprised. But for those who want the original Pixel Fold, don’t worry, it’ll be coming back soon.
In a statement made to Android Central, Google has confirmed that the availability of some older Pixel devices, including the Pixel Fold, will eventually return to the online store. The company says that this will take place after the Pixel 9 Pro Fold goes on sale. Presumably this is so that consumers will spend their money on the newer device rather than the older one.
Google did not confirm if the handset will return with a discount, but it’s almost safe to assume that it will. It doesn’t make sense for Google to sell both the original Pixel Fold and its new Pixel 9 Pro Fold at the same prices. Especially since the newer handset comes with upgraded features.
For those who are a bit putoff by the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s price tag, hopefully the return of the original handset will represent a slightly more affordable alternative. It is still a great handset one year later, especially with Google’s software support that should keep it relevant for the years to come.
