0

There’s no question that modern smartphones come packed with some amazing features and capabilities – after all, they are pretty tech swiss army knives. On one hand though, it’s unavoidable for many of us to have our own preferences when it comes to which kind of smartphone we should choose, in which case a quick look at different pros and cons would be most handy.

For this one, we’re checking out the base model Pixel 9 and putting it head-to-head against the iPhone 15. Both phones pack some impressive tech inside, and as such you might be wondering which one to go with – let’s take a look!

iPhone 15: Apple Essentials

First up is the iPhone 15 – currently Apple’s “vanilla” flagship model, the 15 comes with some much-welcome improvements over its predecessors. This includes a brighter display with 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a newer high-resolution 48MP camera (up from 13MP), USB-C support, and a more refined design which mixes matte glass and slightly curvier edges. It’s a nice improvement over older iPhones, but there are still some limitations like the slow 60Hz screen, slow charging speeds, and a small 3349 mAh battery, for example.

Where the iPhone 15 shines though is with Apple’s ecosystem – it gives users entry to essential Apple services like iMessage and FaceTime to name a couple, in a hardware package that’s more versatile than cheaper iPhones, which themselves come with even more hardware limitations. If you’re keen on staying inside Apple’s walled garden, then the iPhone 15 is probably the more ideal – and more expensive – choice to go with.

Another highlight that should be mentioned is the A16 Bionic chip inside the iPhone 15, which is one of the more impressive mobile SoCs that we’ve seen, especially on an Apple device.

Pixel 9: A More Complete Package

If you’re not too particular about Apple’s app ecosystem however, then the Pixel 9 is an undeniably better choice, especially in terms of hardware. Compared to the iPhone 15, it’s got a brighter and smoother screen at 3,000 nits peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate, a larger battery at 4,700 mAh, and higher-resolution cameras, to name a few.

And it doesn’t stop at hardware – the Pixel 9 also comes with a ton of AI features from Google, including Magic Editor, Add Me, Best Take, and even simpler, practical day-to-day features like Call Screening, spam message filtering, and better voice-to-text recognition. Meanwhile, Apple says that the non-pro iPhone 15 will not be getting its Apple Intelligence features due to hardware restrictions.

For the same 800-dollar price tag as the iPhone 15, you’re getting a richer hardware and software feature-set with the Pixel 9, handy AI features, as well as software support for the next seven years.

The Verdict

Of course at the end of the day, the battle for smartphone supremacy between the iPhone 15 and Pixel 9 will be a subjective one, and will depend on individual user needs and wants. In terms of overall hardware however, the Pixel 9 gets a lot of things right, and unless you’re really locked into Apple’s device and software ecosystem, there’s little reason not to go with Google’s latest flagship phone.
