Pixel 9 will be the first Pixel phone to ship without the latest version of Android

0

The Google Pixel 9 series is here. For the most part, it looks like it’s going to be a great handset, but we have some bad news. It appears that the Pixel 9 will not be shipping with the latest version of Android installed. This means that it will ship with Android 14 instead of Android 15.

This doesn’t mean that it won’t be updated to Android 15, it’s just that users won’t get to try all the new Android features out of the box. It is unclear why that is the case, but chances are it is because Android 15 isn’t ready yet.

Google typically announces their Pixel phones in October. Usually by then, the latest version of Android is ready. But this year, Google announced the Pixel 9 phones a good two months ahead of schedule. This means that the development on Android 15 is still in progress. Also, to be fair, we’d rather Google delay the release of the update if they feel it isn’t up to scratch. We’ve seen how disastrous things can get when companies rush out updates.

It is unclear why Google chose to launch its Pixel phones earlier than expected. Perhaps the release of AI-powered smartphones has put pressure on the company to do something similar. Plus, the iPhone 16 series from Apple is launching next month, so maybe Google doesn’t want to look like they’re late to the party.

Either way, if you are planning on getting the Pixel 9, keep in mind that it won’t ship with Android 15.
