Moving forward, Fitbit smartwatches may no longer be a thing

It has been a while since we’ve seen a Fitbit smartwatch. If you like Fitbit smartwatches like the Sense 2 and Versa 4, then you might be disappointed to learn that in the future, we may no longer see such devices from the company.

This is according to a report from Engadget who spoke to the senior director of product management for Pixel Wearables, Sandeep Waraich. When asked if there would be a new Fitbit smartwatch, Waraich basically said that the Google Pixel Watch would be the smartwatch in their wearables portfolio.

Waraich also confirmed that moving forwards, Fitbit would focus more on trackers. Fitbit started out as a company that made fitness trackers. Unlike smartwatches, fitness trackers are more discreet and more or less serve a singular purpose. This made it ideal for those who prefer traditional watches, or no watches, but still want a way to track their fitness activities.

The company eventually started making smartwatches in response to the market demand for such wearables. However, this statement does suggest that Fitbit will now focus on trackers more than smartwatches. It is a bit of a pity since Fitbit’s offerings added more variety and options, but we can’t say we’re surprised that Google probably wants to consolidate their products and brands.
