Google just held its annual Pixel event. The event saw Google announce a bunch of new smartphones, which includes the Pixel 9 series and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the company’s latest foldable smartphone. We also got a look at some new accessories including the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and the Pixel Watch 3. If you missed the Pixel event or want a roundup of everything Google announced, then read on!
Pixel 9 series
The highlight of Google’s Pixel event has to be the company’s latest flagship phones, the Pixel 9 series. What’s interesting is that usually Google announces two Pixel phones. One is the base model, and the other is the Pro model with slightly better hardware specs.
In this case, Google actually introduced a third Pixel 9 model in the form of the Pixel 9 Pro XL. In a way, the XL model replaced the previous Pro model. Both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro come with 6.3-inch displays, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a 6.8-inch display. This makes it Google’s biggest Pixel phone to date.
All three phones use the same Tensor G4 chipset, so the main differences lie in their battery sizes, screens, and RAM. The Pixel 9 does however come with a dual camera setup, while the Pro and Pro XL models use the same triple camera setup.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The other highlight of Google’s Pixel event is the announcement of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The previous model was the Pixel Fold, but it seems that Google has decided to fold (pun intended) their foldable phone into their main Pixel lineup. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is also Google’s largest foldable to date.
It has a 6.3-inch external display and an 8-inch internal foldable display. Google has also given the design of the phone an update, which we honestly think looks pretty awesome and one of Google’s best designs to date. It will be interesting to see how it fares against other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Google has a slight advantage in that it is a Pixel phone, so users can look forward to prompt and timely updates when it comes to software. It is also slightly cheaper than some of the competition, making it a more attractive purchase.
Pixel Buds Pro 2
On the outside, the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 looks a lot like its predecessor, but Google has made some changes to the design. For starters, there’s a new “twist-to-adjust” stabilizer system. This will allow users to adjust the fit of the earbuds by twisting it, which is honestly a much more clever and elegant solution compared to switching out ear tips.
Google is also introducing a new Tensor A1 chip that not only adds advanced audio processing capabilities, but also AI functionality. This is said to result in twice the noise canceling power and clearer calls. The new Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds also support Google’s Find My Device network, so you can locate your earbuds if you’ve misplaced them.
Pixel Watch 3
Last but not least, we have the new Google Pixel Watch 3. Similar to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, the Pixel Watch 3 shares a lot of design similarities to its predecessor. However, Google is finally introducing size options. There will be a smaller 41mm model for those who prefer a smaller watch, but there is also a new 45mm model for those who prefer a watch with a larger face.
Google has also bumped up the brightness of the smartwatch, allowing it to go up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. As this is a smartwatch, there are new fitness and health related features coming to the software. This includes a Morning Brief that gives you an overview of your health metrics including sleep. There are also new features for runners that can help them plan and track their running progress by setting cooldown and warmup timers, target pace, distance, and more.
