Google Wallet can now save your hotel room keys

0

Most hotels you go to give you a key card that unlocks your room door. While there’s nothing wrong with it, there are some flaws. For example, the information on these key cards can be wiped. They can also be misplaced, which means customers have to pay a fine. If you’re a Google Wallet user, then you can look forward to using your phone to store your hotel keys.

This is according to a report from 9to5Google who spotted an update to the support page. According to the update, users will now be able to store their hotel room keys in Google Wallet and use their phones to unlock their doors. They will also be able to use it to access areas in a hotel that would require the use of a key card.

Keep in mind that this is only applicable for hotels that support it. At the moment, the first hotel to add Google Wallet support is the Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg, Sweden. We expect that in the future, more hotels could add their support. We’re hoping that this will become a standard.

Right now, many hotels that offer digital keys do so through their own app. This is troublesome as users will need to download the app just to use it. Adding a key to Google Wallet is the same as adding other passes. So if you’re familiar with the process, you can do the same with eligible hotels.
