Corning – the company whose name you read about in all those phone spec sheets and marketing materials – recently announced a new addition to its product lineup with the new Gorilla Glass 7i, which joins other variants such as Gorilla Glass Victus, 5, and the ever-popular Gorilla Glass 3.
Corning says that the 7i version is designed to deliver improved durability for midrange devices, with better drop and scratch performance compared to competing products from other manufacturers.
The company boasts that Gorilla Glass 7i survived drops of up to one meter on surfaces replicating asphalt in its lab tests, outliving glass products from other manufacturers, which failed when dropped from half a meter or less. David Velasquez, VP and General Manager at Corning states:
Durability remains a primary concern for anyone with a mobile device… Purchasing a smartphone is a significant investment, and Gorilla Glass 7i allows more consumers to protect their purchase by providing advanced toughness for value and intermediate devices at an affordable price point.
With all that being said, we can expect to see Gorilla Glass 7i make its debut on devices from Oppo.
