Truecaller can now detect if AI is used for scam calls

0

If you hate receiving scam or spam calls, apps like Truecaller do a fantastic job at blocking those calls for you. But scammers are getting increasingly creative, and with the rise of AI, what’s to stop these callers from using AI to scam you? That’s what Truecaller is trying to stop in its latest feature that can detect AI scam calls.

This new feature is dubbed the AI Call Scanner. Basically when a call comes in and you answer it with Truecaller’s software, you can toggle the feature that will scan the voice on the other end. This will check to see if the person calling is using deepfake technology to mimic a voice in order to trick you.

In a way it’s kind of ironic. Truecaller recently rolled out a feature that uses AI to mimic your voice to answer a call on your behalf. Now they want to be able to detect if a call coming in is using deepfake technology. It’s kind of like coming around full circle. That being said, if you want to access this new feature, you will need a subscription to the Truecaller Premium plan.

This is a paid subscription with a free trial, so you can try it out first before committing. The new feature is being rolled out for Android users as we speak. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed if you want to take advantage of it.
