Phones launching in 2024 with 5G capabilities shouldn’t be a surprise. It should be expected. But yet, we are pretty excited to learn that Huawei could have another 5G smartphone up it sleeves in the form of the Huawei P70.
A post on Weibo by user Smart Pikachu claims that the upcoming Huawei P70 could be a new 5G smartphone. They also allege that the P70 could be powered by a brand new 5G Kirin chipset.
One of the reasons why we’re excited is because years ago, Huawei was the darling of the smartphone industry. The company was on track to potentially topple Samsung and Apple. Their phones featured amazing performance, great design, and mind-blowing cameras. Unfortunately, they ran afoul of the US government which severely hampered their developmental efforts.
As a result of being on the US Entity List, it prevented Huawei from doing business with US companies and vice versa. It also prevented the Chinese company from securing components or using technology that might use US patents.
Things started looking good for Huawei in 2023 with the launch of the Mate 60 series. This would mark the first 5G smartphone from Huawei. The US government expressed their doubts about the company’s ability to manufacture their 5G chipsets at scale, so maybe the launch of the Huawei P70 could put those doubts to rest.
