In what is probably one of the more interesting developments we’ve seen with streaming platforms this year, Sony and Amazon recently announced that Prime Video subscribers can now access Crunchyroll’s entire anime library as an optional add-on, bringing hundreds of anime titles to viewers’ screens.
In terms of availability, the add-on is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Sweden, with a planned roll-out for more regions during 2024. Prime members who want to avail the Crunchyroll add-on can choose between different subscription plans, which includes “Fan” for $7.99/month or “Mega Fan” for $9.99/month, with the latter offering viewers the option to download shows for offline viewing.
With that being said, the prices for the Crunchyroll Prime Video add-on are the same as on the platform’s main subcription service. On one hand, being able to access your favourite anime from the Prime Video app is admittedly a convenient solution.
Of course, viewers can opt to watch their shows via the standalone Crunchyroll app for free, although the library is a bit more limited, and ads will play during shows.
