While ASUS has had a ton of experience in the smartphone industry thanks to its line of Zenfone and ROG Phone models, it seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer is looking to close down one of its smartphone divisions – reports have emerged indicating that the ASUS Zenfone range might be discontinued soon.
This new information came to light after a report from Taiwan-based website Tech News suggests that the company is undergoing some organizational restructuring, which eventually led to company layoffs involving personnel who are essentially under the Zenfone division. This could then mean that the Zenfone 10 will be the last of the line, although ASUS will still maintain a smartphone business with its ROG Phone range.
Originally launched back in 2014, the ASUS Zenfone range launched with three different models including the Zenfone 4, 5, and 6 models. This grew with the introduction of several other variants which included the Zenfone Laser, Zenfone Max, and Zenfone Go, to name a few.
Should ASUS push through with the closure of its Zenfone division, this means that there will be one less “compact” premium smartphone brand, a market segment that make up a few brands, including Apple’s iPhone Mini line.
